EMBot is a robotic eye with the function of emotional transmission, and its goal is to gain trust. EMBot imitates human eye emotion through code, and constantly observes the people looking at it.

The trust of an observer is judged by the length of time that the observer engages with EMBot, changes in facial expression, and changes in body language. If the robotic eye observes behaviours indicating trust, a record of these is made. EMBot is linked to a screen with a hidden camera that is placed at the exit of the installation space. When the screen sees a person that has trusted EMBot, the previous behaviours are displayed. All records are deleted when the observer leaves the space.

The aim of the project is to show that a robotic eye could mislead an observer into ignoring the true intention of a system behind the camera. The work discusses the ethics of anthropomorphic eye design and behaviour in robots purposed for human interaction.
